Jobless Rate In Alabama Slowly Improving
Huntsville- There's some good news to report about unemployment in Alabama. The State Department of Industrial Relations is reporting that
Alabama's September unemployment rate fell to 8.9 percent. Over the past five months the jobless figure has been slowly but steadily going in the right direction.
Chris McLemore is employed again working a full time job. He lost his job with NASA last year but now works for Mosley Technical Services Incorporated in
Huntsville. McLemore says its encouraging that the unemployment rate seems to be slowly improving in Alabama. He says being out of work nearly a year was difficult, but he says folks in that situation have to stay focused. "You just pick up the pieces and go on, you could easily stare into the abyss and get depressed. But that's not going to help so the best thing to do is to dust yourself off and get back on the horse" McLemore said.
Mosley Technical Services provides support for the military. McLemore also works for the Huntsville Space Professionals helping others who lost jobs in the space industry.
"There is hope and there is support, there are other people going through the same things your going through so keep the faith" Mclemore said. The HSP group has held several job fairs including one last July at UA-Huntsville where McLemore got a lead that helped him land his job.

Space Shuttle Discovery Leaking Fuel
Cape Canaveral, Fla. - Space shuttle Discovery is leaking on the launch pad.
If it isn't fixed soon, the small fuel leak could delay Discovery's planned launch on Nov. 1.
The flight to the International Space Station will be Discovery's last.
Shuttle engineers met Monday afternoon to put together a repair plan. Later this week, technicians will tighten the bolts on the leaking fuel line. If that doesn't help, they may have to replace four seals or even part of the line.
Last week, NASA replaced a cap in the system, but it did not stop the leak.
The rocket fuel is used to maneuver the shuttle while it's in orbit.

Space & Rocket Ctr CEO Stepping Down
After almost ten years at the helm, Larry Capps quietly told the board of governors he was retiring from his post as the CEO of the Space and Rocket Center.
Capps made the announcement Friday afternoon during the group's quarterly meeting. Space and Rocket Center Chairperson Dorothy Davidson had nothing but praise for Capps. "He guided the Space Center through some of its darkest days and leaves as his legacy a decade of growth." Davidson said in a prepared statement.
So why is Capps stepping aside? "You know, I've already retired from my two previous careers. I'm at the point now I'd like to be able to spend more quality time with my wife, Brenda, and my two sons, and maybe travel a little," Capps said.
A committee has been formed to look for a new CEO.
Headache Reliever for Madison Drivers
Madison city officials voted to acquire the right of way for the County Line Road intersection at Interstate 565. It's the beginning of a highly anticipated road project for both drivers and business owners.
Arbor Crossing is one of the many new shopping centers to pop up in Madison on County Line Road. With the grand opening just several weeks away, property owner, Scott Welch, can't wait for the new exit and entrance ramps to be added at the County Line Road interchange.
"Traffic is beginning to be a problem here and so, easier access to get in and off County Line Road and 565 will certainly help me with the renting of my space, I'm sure," said Welch.
The city took the first step in the project by acquiring the right of way at the intersection.
Teenager Dead After Early Morning Shooting
A fight broke out near a Huntsville teenage hot spot early Sunday morning, and now, a 17-year-old is dead.
Sergeant Mark Roberts said he was the victim of gunshot wound to the head. He also said several people were involved when the fight began around 12:30 a.m. in a parking lot across the street from Club Infinity on Space Gate Drive.
During the struggle, investigators says 22-year-old Steven Craig Seay pulled out a handgun and shot 17-year-old James Price in the head. Price was transported to Huntsville Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Seay has been charged with murder, and police have recovered a handgun they believe was used in the shooting.
Seay is being held in the Madison County Jail awaiting bond.
