2 workers killed in Tenn. post office shooting

HENNING, Tenn. -Two post office workers were killed Monday in a shooting at a post office in West Tennessee during a possible robbery attempt, authorities said.
The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department told The Associated Press that two female employees were killed Monday morning in what may have been a robbery at the Henning post office. Officers are searching for a maroon Chevrolet Malibu with two men inside.
A witness told a state employee at the Tennessee Capitol in Nashville, Tony Burns, that the shooting happened during a robbery attempt. Burns said his sister-in-law, a postal service worker, was assigned to the Henning office Monday. He said she told him she escaped unharmed.
Jeff Dew, of the Dennis Dew Termite Co., told the AP that his brother, Eric Banks, was driving through the area when a woman flagged him down near the post office.
He said that his brother reported the shooting to police. He said he hasn't been able to speak to his brother because his brother has been talking with police since about 9 a.m.
Beth Barnett, a U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman, said there had been an incident at the post office but didn't yet have further details.
The FBI and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are helping the postal service investigate.
Henning, about 45 miles northeast of Memphis, was the hometown of "Roots" author Alex Haley.

The Moulton Police Department and Lawrence County District Attorney's Office assisted in the investigation. In addition to drug charges, the sheriff says some of the suspects also face theft of property charges. More arrests are expected.

Amy Bishop Anderson Cleared in Bomb Case

BOSTON (AP) - A former professor accused of killing three colleagues this year and her brother in 1986 won't be charged in an attempted mail-bombing in Massachusetts.

Amy Bishop and her husband were questioned in the 1993 mailing of two pipe bombs to Dr. Paul Rosenberg, but never charged. U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz reviewed the investigation after Bishop was charged with the shootings at the University of Alabama-Huntsville in February.

Rosenberg received the pipe bombs shortly after Bishop left a job as a researcher at Children's Hospital in Boston, partly due to a poor review by Rosenberg. The bombs did not detonate.

On Thursday, Ortiz announced her office's review didn't uncover enough evidence to charge anyone. She said the investigation is closed.

In June, Bishop was indicted in the 1986 shooting death of her brother, Seth.

Police Bust Cross Dressing Thieves at Boaz Wal Mart

Some very odd suspects went through the Boaz City Police Department earlier this week.

Investigators received a call on Sunday afternoon from Wal-Mart security guards that they'd spotted some unusual people stealing cell phones from the store. What was so unusual? According to Boaz Police spokesman Terry Davis - "There was a black female, two black males dressed as females, and two black males shoplifting merchandise".

When police got there, they say they found 19 cell phones, still in the packaging on the cross dressing crooks and their alleged accomplices.

As detectives did further investigation into the case, they came to believe that the group had been pulling similar heists around the south. Davis says the suspects are now linked to cell phone thefts in Guntersville and Snellville, Georgia as well. Investigators are working with Wal-Mart and local police departments in several other cities to see if the group could be responsible for other crimes as well.

The suspects have been identified as :

18 year old Trevor Baker of Huntsville

21 year old Terrell Jolly of Huntsville, one of the cross dressing males.

23 year old Jarquez Dancy of Huntsville, one of the cross dressing males.

19 year old Precious Humphrey of Huntsville, the lone female.

The 5th suspect is an unidentified juvenile.

Limestone Co. Restaurant Goes Up in Smoke

It just opened a couple of weeks ago, but the Country Boys Buffet in Limestone County is already gone.

According to witnesses, 7 employees were in the eatery around 5:30 Friday evening, getting ready for the late dinner rush. They were trying to start up the restaurant's grease pit when it suddenly caught fire. The flames jumped from the grease to a nearby garbage can. Employees tried to take the garbage out of the building to prevent it from spreading. However, that failed. The fire quickly engulfed the building, and it was gone within minutes.

The restaurant was located on Highway 127, about 2 miles away from Elkmont.

More than 50 volunteer firefighters from five different departments battled the flames and the intense summer heat. It took several hours for the fire to be brought under control. The state Fire Marshal has been called in to help the investigation. No injuries were reported.
