Tourism Down in Gulf Shores This 4th of July

Even with relatively good beach conditions, over the holiday weekend, the oil spill is keeping many tourists off of the beaches in Gulf Shores.

Fewer tourists means less income for Gulf business owners.

"The Hangout" in Gulf Shores is doing its best to show visitors a good time hoping they will plan a return visit. The owner Shaul Zislin says he's seen a fifty percent drop in business from last year's Fourth of July.

"This is the week that pays then for October, November, December , January and February. So it's not whether your profitable this week but are you profitable enough to then sustain throughout the off season?" says Zislin.

Several other business owners say they've prepared for the worse but hope to recover after the clean-up is completed. They also say for the most part the beaches are fine.
